COMMON SENSE Volume III: Gay Marriage

"We're Mad As Hell, And We're Not Going To Take It Anymore!"

By Rebecca Iocca & Tom Hurst, 2005

What are gay rights? Actually, they are the same Constitutional rights that all Americans enjoy. Unfortunately, the Democrats and Republicans have taken it upon themselves to deny you these Constitutionally guaranteed rights at the behest of a small group who want to impose their values and morals on everyone, especially gays. For example, they want to deny gays the choice of marriage when, in fact, the government has no Constitutional authority to interfere with such a contract between two individuals. Our Constitution and the founding fathers tell us that the government exists only to protect our life, liberty and property - not to define marriage or legislate morality. Aside from the Constitutional issue, as Harry Browne says, "Why in the world would we want government to define what a marriage is? What's next? Will the government define what love is?"

Understand, when politicians are used to interfere with people's lives, they will side with whomever has the most political influence. If you want to use the government to make other people think the way you do, you're treading on very thin ice. This is because, one day, the tables may be turned and the values you object to may be imposed on you by people you disagree with.

But, let's not lose sight of the real issue. Whether it be gay rights, marriage, etc., the real issue is protecting personal rights and freedoms that are guaranteed by our Constitution. We are fighting not just for your rights and freedoms, but for everyone's freedom all the time, unlike the Democrats and Republicans who always compromise our freedoms for political gain. Even though local Democrats have a champion who supposedly fights for the gays, know that most Democrats still sided against your Constitutional right of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Unlike the duplicitous status quo parties, we are unified behind these Constitutional guarantees. Democrats and Republicans will without hesitation use a front person to console you and buy your vote in order to hide the fact that they are truly working against you. The latest example of this betrayal is the marriage act.

Our plan of fighting for everyone's freedom is designed to bring people together. If the gays join us in our crusade to liberate everyone, they will be seen as defenders of freedom, much like Martin Luther King, not as a group looking for special privileges. This will lead to greater respect and acceptance, and demonstrate unity with all people instead of divisiveness. Because you are helping to protect the freedoms of all, it will be difficult for the opposition to vilify you.

One thing is certain, we will fight to protect all of your freedoms all of the time. Please consider joining us in our struggle to defend everyone's rights against the unscrupulous, self-serving Democrat and Republican politicians and bureaucrats who have worked to divide us for political expediency. Remember, evil flourishes when good people do nothing. Take action by supporting independent candidates who are pro-Liberty!
